Can AZ. licensed ATV's operate on roads in other states?

Since AZ. issues ATV's a license to legally run on AZ. streets, do other states have to honor that license? I think, but I'm not sure, states have to honor the actions of other states. It would seem that when you license your Harley in AZ, you can go across the country on any roads. However, you can license a golf cart here as well, and the thought of heading to Chicago on your golf cart seems like an improbability. Another situation might be studded tires. If they're legal in your state and you start a cross country drive, do you have to have tires that are legal in each state you drive through. Anybody know? Thanks.

"do other states have to honor that license"

In a word NO

your vehical, or anything for that matter fall under the laws of the state you are in.

Just because Arizona see's your Ranger as street legal does not mean Kalifornia will.

the second you cross any state line you are instantly under their laws

The real easy one to get ticketed for is "Window tint" every state seems to have a different law.

Arizona actually has very tolerant laws on just about everything

Most states have a grace period of 30 or 60 days before you have to license a vehicle in that state. I just waited until the plates were about to expire before I changed the plates over. If a police officer asked me how long I had been in the state, I always said: "Over two weeks now." Snow tires are regulated by each state's laws and they can give you a ticket if they are illegal in the state you are in irregardless of your own state's laws. I have been given warnings before to get my tires changed or pull the studs out with a pair of pliers. But I have never been given an actual ticket. I always say yes sir or no sir when pulled over by police so I usually only get warning tickets. Off highway recreation vehicles are a grey area and each county, city or town may have different rules in their jurisdiction. Some let you cross a public highway only, some welcome you to come to town and some like to build up the city or county coffers by giving you a ticket. This is sad but true. Boise City just annouced that the police would be giving more tickets because the police budget was running low. So what you could do yesterday, you may not be able to do today. When I had a Plymouth Road Runner, I never got a ticket. When I bought a Volkswagen, I got 3 tickets in a week. So it is not necessary what your doing but what you are driving can get you a ticket. Of course this was in the last century.

Re: Can AZ. licensed ATV's operate on roads in other states?

My daughter lives in Southern California and I regularly trailer mine over for a week with the grandkids. I have had it all over the city of Rancho Cucamonga and passed a number of LEOs in the process. I can't tell you of the legality of it but my daughter's family lives in a country club where many little golf carts drive the immediate streets. I've never seen anyone out of their neighborhood with theirs but I doubt those crappy EZ-GOs run at 50 MPH for the major thoroughfares either. When/if I get hammered, I'll report the damages to you all.
