nearly impossible to get into high rangs / won't idle with cold engine.
2004 ranger 4x4. bought it new. now has 560 hrs. i love the machine but 2 problems have surfaced. 1st-- nearly impossible to get into high range. reverse, low, and neutral, no problem. i can hear gears gringing when atempting high range. sometimes (very seldom) it will go into high range and then all is well, operates as it should. dealerships have looked at it and said they didn' know what the problem was, wanted to tear down the tranny to find problem. i think it is something simpler than that.. need help!

Your shift linkage has slipped some would be my guess happens ever now and again, have it checked and let us know what the end result turns out to be..
