Re: 4X4 NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO HIGH RANGE
Your shift linkage has slipped some would be my guess happens ever now and again, have it checked and let us know what the end result turns out to be..

Re: 4X4 NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO HIGH RANGE
Have checked carefully, linkage is not the problem.
The pulley that is driven by the belt does not stop turning when the engine is at an idle. If I stop the pulley from turning it will shift into high range easily. Question is, is the pulley supposed to come completly when at an idle? The 2 dealerships I've talked to either don"t know or wont tell me. So far I haven't found any other ranger owners that have had this problem. |

Re: 4X4 NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO HIGH RANGE
I have the opposite problem, when I put my ranger into low I can't get it out of low. I have been told that my idle could be too high, I have adjusted the linkage some and it is a little better. I have gotten to adjusting the carb yet it starts and runs good so I hate to mess with the carb. Some day I'll find the idle screw and try that too.

check your motor mounts something may be out of align. stick a crow bar next to them and pry. if there is any gap they are bad. mine was a little hard to shift when my lower mount was bad. i have an 07 500

The belt may or may not stop turning depending on where it is in the primary. It should be able to stop because the primary should open enough to drop the belt onto a bearing on the boss. There are few reason I know of that will make the the belt turn without being able to stop. Idle too high, boss bearing seized or something is preventing the primary from opening completely. I'm sure there are other issues that will make the belt run all of the time but I'm not totally up to speed on Polaris clutches yet.

2004 Full size Ranger
Had that problem for two years. Bought it used from a guy in Houston bayou area. It was snorkeled and apparantly he ran it under water. Not saying this is what caused your problem but when I finally took it to a dealership, a gear tooth was broken inside the tranny. It shifted sometimes and sometimes it would'nt, depending how the gear stopped. I would slow the idle first and try that before taking to a dealer.
