06 500EFI belt slip
Hello, N00B to the forum.
I have a 06 500 EFI. Started to loose a belt while out hunting. Replaced it on the spot with a new belt. It started slipping even worse. The old belt began to frey on the edges. With the new belt, it'll get going and you can feel it slipping, but it'll eventually catch up and actually get up to speed. No debris in the drive. Any ideas ?Thanks |

Re: 06 500EFI belt slip
How many miles/hours on the machine? Not sure about life expectancy of the Polaris clutch sheaves, but with a lot of miles, it is possible the clutchs are just worn out. I would also check to make sure everything is tight and the clutch's are not misaligned, as this could chew up a belt fairly quick.
Also check to see there is no oil leaking onto the clutchs which would cause slipping. I have never had any issues with my belts, so I am just throwing out ideas. Good Luck, Kollin

Re: 06 500EFI belt slip
If your belt is coming apart it would most likely be an alignment issue or a cracked primary clutch sheave. You could also check for a broken motor mount. You said the new belt was slipping after installed. You will need to clean the sheaves before installing a new belt and washing the silicone based release agent from the new belt helps a lot. Keep in mind you might have to re shim the secondary clutch so you have the proper belt deflection. Having the proper belt deflection will translate in to more bottom end and increased top end performance and longer belt and clutch life. Good Luck...
