need advice on frt. prop. shaft (pass side) exposed spline..normal??

2006 ploaris Ranger 700 xp 4x4
Hoping someone out there has some input on this, just noticed it today.
Passenger side front prop. shaft has appx 1" of exposed splines where it meets front gearcase.
I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but do not think so. The right side is up tight to case.

Also, bought this used and do not have a MIL LIGHT in dash as the svc. manual shows.
Was it removed or, I thought I read somewhere that 'codes' would indicate on gear selector lighting?
Any and all info appreciated; Thx, Fieldplanner

Welcome to Polaris Ranger Forum!

On your shaft I believe you are referring to the Front Passenger CV Axle. If so there should be no splines showing as the boot should hide all of that. If the boot is scrunched up to close it possibly could but if the boot looks the same as the other boots then you might have a problem.

The codes will flash up on the screen. You will get a wrench icon that will com up and flash. I don't have an 06 but the light or flashing codes should go through the digital display.

Thanks Josh, I'm trying to upload pic's ...there is a solid boot on shaft next to gear case, and that is where spline is exposed.

On the other issue 'Mil Light, this unit does not have digital screen..too early I guess. It says to turn key on/off 3 times and count the number of blinks to get the "blink code(s) from the small Mil lamp in center of dash next to ignition....mine does not have that light ...suspect it was removed.

I would say that is not good. I would be careful in 4x4 mode as you will possibly break that spline shaft. That should be very close to the other side. Those just pop in and out. Have you tried pushing it back in. Maybe use a rubber mallet on the end of the axle to help knock it back in. I thought they had digital displays in 2006. So I don't know what to tell you about yours.

Splines look clean. It should just push back in.

Hey guys thanks for your input, I'm going to try to pull and inspect axle to see if retainer circlip is still on end and take it from there.
Also ordered code iindicator light today.
Thanks again and here's hoping for a somewhat easy repair, learning more all the time.

I had the same problem with my driver side axle. pushed it back and it clipped back in place. But I have a feeling that with my 3 inch lift in front it will do it again.

Re: need advice on frt. prop. shaft (pass side) exposed spline..normal??

Hi Guys, I have an 2006 700xp. It has about 107 hours and the small round light that has a wrench icon is on steady. The 06's didn't have the instrument cluster. I noticed that Fieldplanner was ordering an indicator light to diagnos the 06. Can you tell me more about how to get the codes from an 06? My ranger has also started to sputter occasionally especially when it is warmed up. It seems like an occasonal miss-fire. Does anyone have experience with fixing that?

Thanks!
Erik

Re: need advice on frt. prop. shaft (pass side) exposed spline..normal??

I figured a little more out. If I turn the key off and on 3 times, the light blinks once quickly to show it is in read out mode then is off. It then blinked twice, then once for code 21, then six times and once for code 61. Code 21 indicates Loss of Synchronization, and 61 indicates that it is done. I checked my crank position sensor for the correct resistance which seems fine. I then disconnected the battery for a bit and tried to read the codes again. It cleared, so it only blinked for 61. It seemed to drive ok, but it is cool tonight. I'll try it in tommorrow to see if it occurs again.
