What rear seat to buy?
I want to install a rear seat for the kids, but don't want to pay $500. Yeah, yeah, I'm a cheapskate, I know. What have you guys installed. I can find them for around $250 for a replacement jeep seat. Prefferably I'd like to get one that will mount to a flat surface, so I don't need a mount. Also it'd be nice to have headrests. I'd be grateful for any input. Thanks

Re: What rear seat to buy?
Check the wrecking yards in your area for a rear seat from a Subaru Brat.

Re: What rear seat to buy?
I would check craigslist, I found a 52" beard bench seat in great condition barely used with no tears for $250. Hopefully this will help

Re: What rear seat to buy?
I got a seat out of a school bus. Actually, I got two, because they only have legs on one end. I cut the legs from one of them and welded them to the opposite end on the other seat. Fits perfectly in the back, I just ratchet strap it in when I need it. It has a high back, so no need for a headrest. I just leave it at my riding camp and if anyone "extra" is around and needs a ride, I just throw it in the back.

Re: What rear seat to buy?
That looks like a comfortable seat, but it looks as if it would be really low to the floor. You would have to fabricate something to give you a little height.

Re: What rear seat to buy?
Rangers get pretty tippy when you raise up the rear seat, I'd keep it on the floor.

Very good advice...it maybe uncomfortable for taller people, but the safest.

My guess is that if you ask around you'll find one for free. They are just about useless in the 2 door JK's for all but the smallest of kids and many folks yank them out to make room for tools, recovery gear, camping gear, etc. I pulled mine out the night I brought the Jeep home and (lucky for me) nobody wanted it. Shortly there-after I bought the Ranger and as luck would have it...perfect fit! Good luck with your scavenger hunt! Take care... SARTECH (AKA mdantonio) |

Re: What rear seat to buy?
My buddy had a old junk ford aerostar van and the back seat worked perfect. Had about a 1/2 in on either side and seat belts built in. just built a frame and used the stock bed bolt holes. works awesome.
