I bought my Ranger second hand a few years ago. It had been equipped with Grizzly axles in the front and I had an early problem with CV boots, which I replaced, but the clearance is miserable and I had a time getting the boots to stay. Anyway, recently, throwing the AWD switch would cause a shifting-type noise but occasionally the machine would slip out of AWD and the sound of gears grinding would come from the front differential. Now, the shifting noise still happens, but there is no AWD in the front. It seems to me that either the electric actuator is not engaging completely or something more ominous is broken in the differential. I hear no unusual noises from the front differential running along in either Rear Drive or AWD. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.
