Couple of Questions from a new owner
Hi Everyone,
I recently purchases the XP 800 EPS and I have some questions. My main purpose of buying the ranger was to get around our little ranch and haul light cargo (firewood, etc) around, but I do have two applications that I need some help with: 1. Can I use the ranger to pull a small stuck compact trackor/mower out of a ditch? What about a small car (for example: Honda Civic) if it is stuck in snow? What is the best/safest way to do this? I have the hitch & ball in the back, and I'm getting a plow and front winch? I'm not sure if the ranger is powerful enogh to do any of this, that is why I tought i'd asked before I try. 2. I do want to use the ranger to plow our driveway (we have a very long driveway) and being on Montana, we do get snow often in the winter. I am looking at these two models: http://www.utvheadquarters.com/inc/sdetail/12134 http://www.utvheadquarters.com/inc/sdetail/10110 I was wondering if anyone has any experience with either one of these plows? How does the ranger work as a now plow? I am partially handicapped (not in a wheelchair, but can't get around too easy or lift heavy items), so I need something that is easy to install and remove. Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kory |

Re: Couple of Questions from a new owner
I have the smaller RZR and I would not hesitate to try to pull out a stuck vehicle with it. A nylon rope works best as a tow strap because it stretches and you can get a short run at it to pull the other vehicle out. With the nylon rope you will not have the sharp jerk that you would get with a chain. I have a winch on my RZR and would try to winch someone out, but if there is too much weight, the winch will stall. I do not have a snow plow on my RZR but other forum members do and they should be able to share their experiences they had with their plow.

Re: Couple of Questions from a new owner
I would agree that using a snatch-um strap would be the best to use. I pulled a truck once that was hung up on the frame with a car, surprising pulling power. People were laughing me for attempting to pull it but is worked with no damage to either vehicle. Wrapped around the axle of the full size Blazer and on hooked to the trailer hitch of my Monte Carlo, took a 10 ft or so running start and it came right out.
I have had my strap for over 30 yrs and it has proven to be an invaluable tool. Snatch-Um Strap; 2.5 in. Wide; 30 ft. Long; 18000 lbs. |

I can't comment on the snow plows you have listed, but I've purchased my last 3 from traxms. Their site isn't the best, but give them a call. They are very knowledgable. I just bought a Ranger and ordered the 72" American Eagle plow. Very reasonable in price.

Pull away Bro. you cant hurt the ranger as it can only pull its own weight and shouldn't stress anything before the tires break free..

I forgot to mention the plows, I have used CC and like them I currently use a warn cyclone I'll try to post a pic off the web.. However if I were looking for easy I would go all out and get all the hydraulics but switch to the poly blade to lighten the load. Enjoy and let us know what you choose..

I have the Glazier II (Polaris catalog) plow on my 2010 XP Ranger and it works great for the snow here in Idaho and for your next question you will be surprised how much pulling weight the Ranger has, very capable of pulling small vehicles out of anything.
