acceleration issue????
Alright so got a problem with my 07 ranger 500 efi. Everything works and runs fine until I get to around 20 mph. No speedo just guessing. When I floor it or just even try to accelerate it bogs down and doesn't want to go.
Any ideas ?

Does it have a fuel filter? If so is it plugged? How does the air cleaner look? Any sort of blockage in the air intake? Any chance the muffler is plugged with mud or sometghing like that? These are the first things I'd look at.
Any backfiring or popping? If so there could be water in the fuel. Nothing a little Heet won't fix.

I was thinking air filter. Hasn't been changed since I bought it 160 hours ago. Where i ride is really dusty and muddy as well. As far as the fuel filter how do i check that?

If it's like my '06 Ranger, you won't be able to check it very well, since it's a steel-encased inline filter and you can't see into it. But if you're on the original fuel filter and the machine has been in regular use since 2007, it's probably a good idea to change the filter anyhow.

Yea it is probally the original. Wouldn't hurt to change it that's for sure. I'll prolly do fuel and air filters at the same time and see where it goes from there.

Good idea. I think some of the air filters are washable, that might be a good idea. I'll probably clean mine this spring and try to make it an annual thing.

So I bought a new airair filter. They didn't see any fuel filters listed for my ranger. I tried looking online and couldnt find one and Unless its in the tank i cant see one . Maybe my ride doesn't have one. They did sell me an inline fuel filter but ill have cut my line to put it in. Anyone else had this problem.

It's uncommon for wheeler with a carburetor to have a stock filter. It's a great idea to ad one in. The float bowl will catch most debris so it may also be a good idea to drain it while you are hunting this issue.

Hmmm. I just looked at my service manual 2005-2007 and in the EFI section it says there's a 30 micron strainer filter at the bottom of the fuel pump/pickup assembly - so unfortunately that is all down in your fuel tank and it's one big assembly.
Only way to clean it would be to take the whole thing out of the fuel tank and check it out. I have to go eat supper now but I'll try to post more on this in a bit... there's a section on testing the pump. |
