2012 crew whistling and hard to shift

All,

I have a new (<20hrs) ranger crew that has developed a whistling or whining in the rear. Sound like the clutch belt. At the same time it is difficult to shift in and out of all ranges. I can correct the shifting by turning off and restarting. I assume the issues are related, either needs clutch adjustment or idle adjustment. Are there things i can check or possible correct myself or am i stuck sending to the dealer? Not real thrilled with sending to my local dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The engine may be revving too high - that will make shifting difficult or impossible.

My Ranger Crew shift linkage is all over the place. Very imprecise compared to my previous Rhinos. Popped out of gear going into park a few times on steep grades and sometimes doesn't like to find low with a sloppy grinding engagement.

The chattered screeching I keep hearing on steep descents in 4x4 low must be the belt. Dealer says it's "normal".

Live with it I guess.

There's no adjustment in the clutches

My 2008 has a bearing in the primary that the belt rests on at idle. When that bearing goes it acts as you are describing. I'm pretty sure the same clutch set up is used in the 2012s so that may be something to look at.

Possibly the primary isn't opening completely to release the belt. That would explain the whine and inability to shift. A weight hung, broken spring or worn pivot bolt could cause that, sorry I'm not really well versed on these Polaris clutches.

A high idle condition will also cause this but I'm thinking you would have noticed that.

Thanks all for the input. I think i am going to live with it for a while since im leaning towards the possibility that it may actually be a breakin issue with the belt. Doesnt do it all the time and with only 20 hrs on the machine....nothing should be worn out.

Ill post later on and let you know if it's any better.

For the kind of money these things cost going to live with a problem myself. Less than 20 hrs and a warranty this things going back if it was in my stall.
