My rear end keeps making noises?!
Well, I took my ranger out yesterday for the first time. I played pretty hard, but not that rough. I now have a metallic sounding "tink" coming from the rear end. Jacked the rear up and I can hear it in the rear end when I spin the tires by hand from forward to reverse. It also wants to studder when first taking off. Almost like the clutch is engaging/disengaging. Only when you first start though. I sold my two yamaha atv to step into this polaris world and it seems as if everyone has many problems. Please let me know what you think the problem might be. The studdering may be me slipping the belt also. Smoker it pretty good....but the noise really bothers me.
Thanks in advance. Tim 2010 ranger xp 800 le |

I have 800 crew and I was having problems with 4wd I had 4wd in all forward settings and no 4wd in reverse and it was making a bad sounding racket in the rearend the sound was traveling from the front end to the rear end. Mine was also hesitating when I would take off bit when I pulled the restrictor donut out of the intake hose it made it run a lot better. Hope this helps

My rear end does that when I eat the wrong stuff. :-/
Seriously... if the stuttering is the belt slipping, then check the engine mounts. If they flex too much then there are belt problems. Most of the time you only hear about problems because the owners who have no problems are out driving their Rangers instead of posting here. ;-) |

Agreed, cruise over to the Rhino forums and there's nothing but Rhino problems. Same for Arcticchat, lots of guys hunting for Arctic Cat solutions. As far as your clunking goes, it could definitely be a U joint or CV joint. If that doesn't pan out you may need to pop open the differential, but I would think that less likely.
