Please Help Me ID This Noise So I Can Stop It - Driving Me Nuts
Bought a used 2008 Ranger XP 700. I love it but it has this noise that's driving me crazy. I'm sure there's several folks out there that can identify it just by listening to it, and probably tell me what to tighten or how to fix it. I'm sure it didn't do this new, probably just something loose.
Comes in about second 5, 7, 12, & 15. ftp://polaris:polaris@ftp.bashlor.co.../RangerVib.mp3 Last edited by willieb; 01-29-2012 at 09:50 PM. |

Check for loose stuff... my buddy's used to make a loud racket and it was because a bracket under his seat (about in the middle, in his case it was a bracket for the carb) had come unbolted.
It also sounds like it might be a loose/vibrating piece of sheet metal, like a heat shield. I would pull the seat off and try to follow the sound around to various pieces of sheet metal. You might find one that's loose or just vibrating. |

Sounds like a heat shield maybe? Might also check the exhaust springs.

I agree, sounds like heat shield or something to do with the exhaust system. Thanks for the hints. When I get time to fix it I'll reply with what exactly it was. |
