13 Ranger dies, low voltage

I just bought a 2013 800 and I have 4 lights mounted in my roof. If I run the machine very long at low rpm or just sit idle with the lights on the machine will either die or not start if I do kill it after running the lights. The DIC will indicate low voltage and I've seen it only charge 10.8 volts from time to time. I have 38 hours on this machine. Any help is appreciated. A larger battery, or add another one of the same size? Do I need another alternator?

From what I am hearing the "stator" is not capable of running that much lighting at idle or low rpm. I cannot remember the numbers but we were just discussing this over the weekend with another fella that had the same issue. Possibly contact yr dealer and see what they say.

Got the same problem, but mine didn't die tho. Looking into a UTV INC alternator kit. Added an Odyssey battery today, but that is not going to solve the charging problem.

Interesting, what does that alternator attach to though? There aren't any belt drive accessories on the Ranger other than the CVT belt, so how's the alternator work?

Depending how much riding you do with and without the lights on you may or may not need the alternator kit. If you add an automotive battery and it has enough capacity to run everything during the night rides and you run it above idle enough during the day to charge it you're good to go. I'd add the battery and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out put the alternator on. You'd buy the battery when adding the alternator so you're out nothing. If a guy wants to do it right and ensure that you don't find yourselt dead in the water add a battery isolator and run the accessories off the aux. battery only. That way you'll always start and run.

Are the lights LED or Halogen. If they are LED's how many inches long are the light bars?

LED's are the way to go the use alot less power, and your battery sould last longer.

I now run an Odyssey battery, factory headlights which are usually off, and a 30" LED light bar up front. Low voltage light still keeps coming on.

Ordering an alternator kit soon.
