ridin at west point
Went riding saturday at west point with josh and acouple more friends. We was having a good time until i tried to go through this mud hole and it went down hill from there. Wound up breaking 3 cv joints trying to get it out. Heres a couple of pics of this mistake.

Re: ridin at west point
Dang that is stuck pretty good. Thats too bad. A handy man jack will get you out of places like that if you can find a good base to set it on. Just jack up the machine and push it off the jack. Sometimes you have to put some trees under the wheels after you get it jacked up. I have had to go get a 4ft X 4Ft piece of plywood to use as a base to be able to jack the machine up. Does not look like any fun at all. Good judgment comes from experience, Experience comes from bad judgment. I have got a whole lot of experience. You can always do like they did in the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy" and winch the vehicle up a tree. I'm glad you got back! 100 years from now you will never know the difference. But that don't fix your cv joints now though. No pain no gain, hurts. Bettor luck next time.

Re: ridin at west point
That $hit looks like Gorilla Glue and I would have done two things different.
1- Watch someone else break their stuff. 2- Get two other machines to winch me out with the doubeling power of snatch blocks. I always feel a bit embarassed when my buddies have to winch me out. ![]() I always feel much worse when they have to winch me after I broke a few hundred bucks worth of parts. ![]() I know this because I have done it more then once and get to wear my sign ![]() Gary

Re: ridin at west point
No ATV could pulled him out. Only a come a long and several straps and tying the straps up high on the tree to pick it up in the rear. You would have had to be there.

Re: ridin at west point
yah josh is right, u would have had to been there to see. i've never seen one stuck as bad as it was. a winch is a great tool to have on ur utv but nothing can replace a good come-a-long. we hooked josh's rzr to it and it wouldnt even move it. i got a 4500 lb winch on mine and it wouldnt move it. good o man power is what got it out.

Re: ridin at west point
Like I said, it looked like Gorilla Glue for sure.
I got into stuff just like that a few years ago and one of my sneakers is still there! I was fortunate because I had a tree right in front of me and climbed up to the second set of branches with my strap and winch cable. Still couldnt budge it. Then I went back up with the snatch block and ran the cable hook back to the bumper. learned just how valuable those things really are and I think it actually does almost double your winches dead pulling force. I got lucky and didn't break any thing because when I kept trying to motor out all I was doing was digging a deeper hole. I also went thru the ice covering a shallow pond one time, right up to the top of the bumper on my 500 sportsman. I couldn't pull out of that because I was below the ice and about 30 feet from shore. Ended up having to cut a few trees down and make ramps for the machine to slide up on to the ice. Took me 3 hours in about 8 degrees and I was soaked. When I finally got home at around 11 PM I stood my frozen pants in the corner until they defrosted. Gary

Re: ridin at west point
A snatch block will double your pulling power, minus the friction to the block, Two pulley's will triple it, minus friction of both blocks. A come a long is indespensable, I always have a least one with me; shovel, ax and chain saw all ride with me. We turned my wife's 700 Sportsman upside down with it's wheels in the air two years ago. We were able to get the machine on its side, but we are old farts and could not get it on it's wheels. By hooking a rope on the foot stand, going under the machine, over the top and then hooking it to a come a long attached to a tree, we were able to get it upright. We had to put a wedge (Rock) in front of the tire so the machine would not slide. Most of the time, when you are stuck in mud, you have to get it up before you can move it forward. That is where a long handy man jack works good. I have gotten my 3/4 ton pickup unstuck with it and I have a 9000 lb winch with a snatch block. Boards and plywood are always nice. but I don't carry them with me. We have to go get them if they are needed. I bought an earth anchor from cabelas last year that I carry in my RZR. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know how it works. The advertisment speaks highly of it, though. Getting stuck is kind of like paying taxes, I guess every one has to pay their dues sooner or later. You never know what you can't do until you find out. Sometimes it is fun. Sometimes it is not. It always makes a good story. Just another adventure.
