Major rookie oil change mistake

I have a 2013 polaris ranger 500 efi, I just did my break in oil change. I did not read the book, so I drained the crank case, changed the filter than filled the crank case from the top of the motor. After i finished I couldnt get the ranger over 25 mph, and oil started leaking from the side of the motor cover.

So this is when i decide to read the book. and apparently I was only supposed to drain the resivour. I ran my engine with almost 4 quarts of oil.

Finally I drained both the crank case and the resivour, and do the oil change properly with a new filter and all. but the ranger still wont go over 25 and there is still oil seeping from the cover when the engine in at higher rpm. What do i do to fix this?

When you say "leaking from the side motor cover" Is it the belt cover?? Or on the flywheel side?

Where on the top of the motor did you add the oil?

Is coming out from the flywheel cover, I did some investigating and Im guessing the o-ring behind the stater or the mechanical seal is the problem. I am going to pull the flywheel cover off tonight and have a look see. Unless someone has a better idea.

Rockit401, I used the fill plug on the flywheel cover. Thanks for asking that question, I am positive this is my problem.

Guess I don't understand. The RZR 900 had a dry sump system, so it had a reservoir, plus a small amount of in in the engine. But the Ranger 900 is wet sump, and there is only one place to add oil.....so I don't see how you screwed it up? Are there 2 drains on that thing, and 2 places it stores oil
