New Ranger and Making it Street Legal
I believe I understand what I need to do to make the new ride street legal - horn, rearview mirror and lighted license plate mount. I'm having a hard time spending $180+ on a "street legal" kit though. I've priced spearate horn kits and components (~$40 or Polaris kit ~$60), mirrors (Polaris ~$60) and license mounts (~$30).
Though I'm not opposed to the bling-factor I'm not into it enough to spending the big $$$ for a lot of billet parts (still have kids to put through school). Has anyone come up with less expensive alternatives for these items? Given what has been invested in the ride so far I know this isn't big money. Just looking to save a few bucks. (Okay, I'll admit it, I'm cheap). Any creative, inexpensive suggestions and sources for parts in the Glendale, AZ area or the internet? TIA

Re: New Ranger and Making it Street Legal
On my RZR, I went to Checker Auto and bought a horn for about $12. You can also go to an auto salvage yard and probably get a used car horn for free.
Turn signals, I bought LED lights at Checkers for about $7 each. The turn signal switch I got off Ebay for around $40. Rear view mirror at Walmart for $9. You should be able to do all of this for less than $100. Up here we do not need a lighted license plate.

Re: New Ranger and Making it Street Legal
In AZ the vehicles are titled. By adding the "street legal" kit you can get the equivalent of a motorcyle plate. The MC plate is not a requirement but is an option.

Re: New Ranger and Making it Street Legal
I had a very positive experience buying my mirror, turn signal kit, horn and license plate bracket from Vic's Light Kits in Havasu, AZ. You can find him on E-bay under ATV Parts. He's familiar with AZ rules, his prices are fair, and his kits are complete.

Little kit I whipped up. Self canceling, used existing tail led's (09), added front led.

Re: New Ranger and Making it Street Legal
I have a mirror I will give you. Was part of the street legal kit on my HD.
Call me about the license plate light and horn button.....I'm sure Josh has not received my sponsor money yet (just mailed it today) and I don't want to step on any toes. Larry AZ Aerial Equipment 6970 N. Grand Ave Glendale, AZ (623) 915-2222 |

Larry
I did a cad drawing took it to a machine shop with a cnc and had 25 made. Most of the other parts are available at different outlets. The indicator lights are home made (Radio shack), front lights from super brite leds, and the rocker is momentary. I am using the rear led's that come on the 09 LE. The signals are self canceling through an electronic device. The device will flash in a timed event and stay flashing when the brake is on. Release brake and after 7 seconds will cancel or you can touch the rocker and it will cancel. I am building others with a standard latching rocker and a indicator light on the switch. |
