1999 Polaris 6x6

I bought this unit in November 2008.
Had a AWD problem, but thanks to forum posts.
I replaced switch and can sling mud.

But I don't have a lot of speed.
High rpm, but no speed.

Got passed by a local kid on dirt bike.

This is my first unit.
So could it be the clutch, belt, or crazy old man behind the wheel?

I use my 6x6 for work & play.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Robert

How fast is NO SPEED at high RPMs? Do you have a speedo?

Sounds like you might need a new belt or a clutch adjustment and inspection. If the belt is worn or glazed then you will get very little grab while the engine is at full throttle.

Being passed by a kid on a dirt bike is not a surprise. Very few SxS machines can keep up with a decent dirt bike with a good rider on it.

You probably need a new belt and the clutches should be cleaned. You could put a clutch kit in that machine and really wake it up. This will make your machine a lot of fun to drive.

Re: 1999 Polaris 6x6

Sorry, not enough info.

When I was talking about high rpm, I have the pedal almost to the floor.

Sounds like a 747 trying to take off.

I live in the hills & coming up my drive I have to floor it to climb the hill.

I expect this in low range, but in high range.

The local kid crossing the road. was testing me, but I believe a possum would still beat me.

Thanks

Robert

Start with the basics and pull the clutch/belt housing and check your belt for a smooth glazed over belt. Inspect the clutch sheaves for any abnormal wear. If the clutch is similar to the RZR, I would also make sure the center bolt that holds the primary clutch to the engine output shaft is tight. I am betting on an old worn out belt.

My 02 6x6 topped out at 38mph (measured from my phone the other day ). New belt but the sheaves are a little worn. Engine runs good good.
