Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

Hello All,
I live on the West Coast (travel between Oregon and California for work). I am looking to buy a Polaris Ranger XP LE in Metallic Silver by July 2009 for Dunefest this year. I am looking for members experiences with the Polaris Dealers on the West Coast. I am currently in Southern California but would purchase and drive to Arizona, Nevada, Oregon or California to get the best deal. Any one have any experiences or suggestions? Any help is appreciated. I only know of a couple dealers here in Southern Cali and both want to get full MSRP for any rides on their lot. Thanks again.

contact www.ShoalsOutdoorSports.com ask for Mark Donavin . They will ship and still beat other dealers prices. Motorsportssuperstore.com also has good deals but don't know if they ship.

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

There is allot more to your question, "Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer", than the bottom line out the door price.

I am sure some of our sponsors might be able to under cut local dealers with price and shipping but what happens when you need service and warranty repairs?

Your first concern might be better to find a local dealer you can trust and work with and that others here know and recommend. The hundred or two you might save on initial purchase will be a drop in the bucket if you ever need a good mechanic or a dealer to stand behind you with warranty issues.

Actually we have (1) Polaris dealer where I live. This dealer is a joke for service. It took 6 weeks for me to get a headlight from a factory that was in stock. They asked the city here for a bailout just to keep the doors open. They would rip off their own mother; and wonder why people drive 100 miles to buy toys. I would drive my ride a 100 miles just to not use this company. So really, it will be about price for this item (sad to say) I work on most of my own toys.
I was really just hoping someone (like a poster above) would have a great experience with someone and I could contact them or maybe even find a great contact down here in Palm Spring/ Palm Desert area, but the Polaris dealer here is a no go. Thanks for the responses. Happy Trails!

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

I heard that!

I am in almost the same shape here. We have 2 dealers within 100 miles and I wouldn't step foot inside one of them. I too do almost all of my own work and maintenance but when the day comes that I need a dealer I will know where to go and be happy I had one fairly close that sold me my machine.

There is nothing wrong about shopping the best price given your circumstances. My recommendation comes purely from the stand point that stuff happens and these are machines that can and will break.

I ran a Honda shop and can tell you from experience that machines we sold failed the very first hour of use and the horror stories about the months it took to get the parts and repair them. Think about this for a minute because it did happen with more then a few brand new Honda's. You pick up the machine at 10:30 AM and bring it back at Noon with a broken weld on the frame. It is a defect! Over a month later your machine is still in the shop waiting for the new frame to arrive so we can strip and rebuild your brand new ATV on to the new frame.

I hope I never need a dealer except for dealer only parts but it is very good to have one you can deal with in these matters.

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

I can attest to what Grazor is saying about service after the sale. A friend of mine had been in the local Polaris dealer looking to buy four atv's for his family. He saved a good deal of money buying from out of state. He hooked up a trailer, went to pick them up and brought them home. One of them had a defective radiator fan. He went into the local Polaris dealer to get "warranty" work done on the fan. The dealer recognized him and said they were really busy, it might take about 8 months to get him in. With that said, I bought from the local dealer and get great service from them. I agree this was pretty sorry for the dealer to do to him, but I guess he was upset about my friend buying elsewhere. That was enough for me to buy local!

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

As a Honda dealer we could not refuse to do warranty work on any Honda that came in. Honda also could not force us to put a non customers machine ahead of service work on our own customers machines!

We never had the best prices but we did have an excellent mechanic. Folks would drive 70 miles to get the machine for $100 less from our competitor and then come in to us with warranty issues because the other dealer had a nasty mechanic or was too far away.

Customers who bought from us went ahead of those who bought elsewhere unless we had down time and a free mechanic. I don't know the inner workings of Polaris dealerships but suspect they are the same.

If we had 2 machines waiting for a part and only one of those parts came in, you can bet your paycheck the customer who bought from us got it.

I am not at all adverse to going for the best price. Just be fully aware of how things really work in this industry. The best price is not always the best deal.

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

Well if looking for best price I know Shoals Outdoor Sports can't be beat. And any shop is supposed to service it , can be put on the back burner if you don't purchase from them. A simple call to Polaris and tell them what the dealer is doing normally fixes the issue. They are a board sponsor but I have checked with 6 local Polaris Dealers and lets say that Shoals has been 1,000 + less than all the others.

Re: Looking for a Good Polaris Dealer....

Here is a list of Polaris dealers that might be worth checking out. They seem like pretty decent dealers and I have heard good feed back on them from customers.

Smalley Sales & Service, Pine Grove, Ca.
Glende Polaris Chico, Ca.
Dixon Polaris Dixon, Ca
California Custom Trailers & Power Sports Elk Grove, Ca.

Hope this helps check them out.
