bought on Friday towed on Sunday HELP

I bought a 2007 Ranger XP 700 with 115 hours on friday and have played with it mainly on the streets in the neighborhood and mildly offroad. Today I was taking my dad on a ride and he commented to me about the bad vibration it has at low speeds. I dont know if that is normal or not. Then I was opening it up on a back street and the belt came apart. Are the two related? I took everything apart, when I get a new belt how to I put it back on? What caused the belt to shred? What can I do about the vibration? I have never owned a toy like this and need help.

Also Today there seams to ba a lot of heat coming from under seat and behind legs.

Thanks,

Jason

Re: bought on Friday towed on Sunday HELP

Jason,

I am not a Polaris Mechanic...but this is what I have experienced. I busted a belt and definitely noticed vibration at low speed / RPM just prior. As to why you busted the belt...it is Ranger and they break. I have not broken one since I had the dealer replace it, but that could also be because I now load it on the trailer in low gear...stop at steep hills and put it in low, driver to the mail box in low. Factory recommends low speeds up to like 15 mph or so in low gear. I made the dealer ride with me in low gear to show him how long (or soon) it takes before the RPM go though the roof. But, I have pretty much lived by that 15mph rule in low and when I know I need to roll faster, I try to get up above 15 mph sooner than later. Not sure if this is good or bad, but again... I have not broken another belt. My best piece of advice is to buy a spare after market belt and keep it with you.

Also, there was a recall on the motor mounts flexing causing misalign on the belt...if you call any dealer with a service department and give them the VIN, they can tell you if it is susceptible to breakage.

First thing you need to check is make sure yours has the new engine bracket. It is located in the front and they had a recall. However dealerships would not replace the ones on the lot till there was an issue. Bad business I believe on polaris end. More than likely that is why it is also vibrating so bad. You will go through another belt if this isn't fixed. Also your clutch and pulley could be out of alignment. Let us know what you find.

Re: bought on Friday towed on Sunday HELP

I have blown a few belts on various machines and the low speed vibration is pretty common just before they go.
The info and advice above is all good. Clutch and pulley should be aligned properly and make sure you have the updated engine mount.
Belts will get toasted if you go too slow in high gear or you stress the belt in high gear doing stuff like loading on the trailer or not shifting to low in tight situations.

Buying the more expensive belts never did anything for us here but if you do install a new belt yourself just go easy until you check to see if the vibration is still there. It should not be with a new belt so that would indicate other issues.

Re: bought on Friday towed on Sunday HELP

mine was built in May 07, so from what I have read it should be the new mount. How can I check Alignment? Is there anywhere I can buy an aftermarket belt today locally? Bearing or belt stores?

Check the front mount carefully. It may look o.k. Pry up on the mount a little to make sure there is no separation.

There is after market belts but I don't know if you have any local shops that would carry them. As I already said, we have found no great benefit in replacing with the fancier belts and for our money, the polaris ones are just as good.

I would be very upset with any Polaris dealer too stupid to carry a good supply of belts and who would need to order them in. Some parts just need to be in stock at all times or someone needs to find a new job or business.

Re: bought on Friday towed on Sunday HELP

I did the UTV Summerfest this weekend and one of my customers told me NAPA has them...they are not a Polaris brand, but the same size same/fit.?.? Definitely buyer beware on that one...just some information that definitely needs validation. I think there is quite a large market for these online, mine came from a buddy who bought us each one as a spare. -MAtt

You can get an alignment tool and belts from www.dirtydawgperformance.com . Dale is the owner and will shoot you straight. Also they sponsor the board here, so please mention us.

I would be very comfy getting it from Dale. Don't know if he has the polaris ones or not but I am sure he has checked them out and would not sell them if they were not good. The Napa ones could be OK too but I would want to hear some experience on them and the makers name.

A buddy bought a couple off Ebay that were supposed to be Kevlar and some super duper belt. They stunk so bad he took them off and went back to stock polaris ones.
