Average speed 55 mph?

Some relatives were up over the weekend. They needed an extra machine so they rented a 2008 Can-Am 400 2-person ATV (only choice they had). It had a lot of miles for a 2008, 4,578 miles in only 81 hours of use, I seen the read out. That's 55 mph average? The rental place said the machines are out every day and they often turn away renters. But 4,578 miles in a area of the country where the seasonal use time is April thru November, that's a lot of miles in a roughly 16 month (could be less actually) time span. They get $150 a day to rent this machine. Everyone who had a chance to ride the machine (about 5 total men and women) complained it was a tank to steer and rode like a lumber wagon. I am seriously thinking of getting into the rental business but after what happened to another rental they had out yesterday, not sure. When we returned this one we saw its twin all busted up in the shop. They had hit a tree with it, the rider survived but his credit card may not.

Btw-Be careful what you buy because he told use this was the last year for these, he will sell them and get new models next year as they start to cost him too much money if he keeps them more the 2 yrs and it gets harder to sell them more than 2 yrs old. Note-He does not sell them locally but never side where he does.

Re: Average speed 55 mph?

With acceleration and deceleration, The machine would have to have a top speed of 70 just to average 56.5. The hour meter is wrong. Good warning about buying low hour-high mileage machines. That is a good sign something is not kosher.

Re: Average speed 55 mph?

I'm guessing that they are going to a powersports auction or on e-bay.
