Stumped in Arkansas

I have a problem that I cant get to the root of. 2010 Ranger 800 efi 4x4. Was used for duck season and parked. Was started again saturday and taken home for a good clean-up. The unit is not mine so dont get mad at me for practially destroying a new unit. When i first started it it seemed like the battery was low. After starting it several times it finally got to where it wouldnt start. This was during my extensive detailing wash job. It wouldnt even turn over. I charged the battery and it still wouldnt turn over. So I jumped across the solenoid and still nothing happened. I took the starter off and carried to a shop. Starter is good. Im stumped and need some sound advice. Could it be one of the unnessacery saftey features like brake pushed in to start of something. Also when i try to start it the dash will flash "wait" and check engine. Someone help because i sure wanna trail ride and drink some cold beverages real soon.
