ranger rear gearcase oil drain plug

I have a 2010 800 XP Ranger. I ddint change the rear gearcase oil last year. I had trouble locating the drain plugs but I finally did. I got the bottom plug out with no problem and drained all the oil out. I stripped out the upper plug. I used a standard sized allen wrench. Any ideas on how to get it out? Could it be metric? It is in a terrible place to get to on the machine.

You might be able to tap in the next size up metric allen into it and get some turn on it that way. If you just can't get it out there is another option. If you still happen to have the old oil you can measure it and put that amount back in it. Either rig up a pump to fill it through the drain or fill it through the vent.

Sometimes warming around the plug with a propane torch will help get broke loose if you can get bite on it somehow. Be careful with the heat if you decide to go down that road. Worst case you can drill the plug out and use a shop vac while you drill to make sure the shavings don't wind up in the case. Drill it so you can cave in the outer portion of the plug with a chisel and peel it out of there. That for me is last ditch resort.
