How fast is the Ranger 400?

We have 8 hours on her already. Time to see what it can do. (Short run anyway)

My son (who has a 1999 Polaris 425 Expedition) wants to know how fast it goes. So we pull out the GPS unit, reset max speed on it and I go first. 42.9 MPH. He takes the GPS unit without re-setting Max speed and gets 48.9 MPH.

Am I dis-apointed? NOPE! I'll only ever go wide open occasionally. Besides that, when we ran a side by side race I blew him away out of the hole!!

Test was performed on blacktop. I should note my dealer has my air pressure in tires 2# lower on front and back than listed.

I know I could do better after I install a K&N filter. (Which I should note he already installed)

UPDATE: Right after I typed this I purchased a K&N filter. $50/includes shipping. (Ebay)

Nice! I have gotten mine to about 45 w gps.

What did you do to reset max speed? I have a 2006 xp 700

Xp700. Was talking about a handheld gps.

Finally installed k&n filter. Sounds better and runs a little faster. Using the same section of road I made 44.5 mph.

I learned, or at least I think I did, that these units must have a speed limiter. I took a small downhill grade on blacktop and when it hit 45.7 mph then it felt like it was kicking back. Sorta like a governor.

Anyway, I won't normally go that fast anyway. Love my trips in the woods. My son picks paths that he thinks I can't do as well as he does with his ATV and l keep showing him up.
