Ranger 800 vs 500

Guys Im new to the forum and we are going to purchase a new Ranger. Our problem is deciding between the 800 and 500. It will basically be used on the farm for hunting, around the house and the occasional trail ride. I was wanting something my wife and kids could drive around but I still do like to have a little fun every once and awhile. Money is not really a issue besides the fact we dont care to buy more than what we need. Any suggestions are appreciated thank you...

You can't have too much in this case. Fifty horsepower in 1000 pounds is not like a dragster.
My cousin has a new 800 mid size and loves it. Smoother and more power, great on the trails. I have ridden with him quite a bit and haven't noticed a problem with the seat getting hot either.
Go drive both and compare.

I use my ranger for similar situations as you describe. I wanted to ride my wife, daughter and myself comfortably. I went to the dealer and drove both and found that the seating on the midsize was not enough for three people and there is not really enough room to install a middle seat belt.

I bought the 2012 800 xp and couldn't be happier. I feel good knowing my daughter is buckled in and we can all ride comfortably and safely. AND the 300 extra cc's doesn't hurt either.

I am biased, decided with the 500 for fuel economy and crew to be able to sightsee with the family. I don't feel it's underpowered and am less worried when the kids or wife drive. The only downside is that I went with the midsize to increase access to trails but the crew really stretches it out making less nimble navigating the trails.

You and your family are the only ones that can make the right decision on this purchase. I am sure that you already know as stated by others that the 800 Ranger is a larger framed unit then the 500.
If money is not a issue then I would spring for a 800. More power, more room to carry people and items, more pulling power and grunt. I have always felt that with a larger engine you never run it as hard as you do with a smaller engine to do the same work load.
As far as MPG, you won't notice a difference, unless you measure every ounce of gas you burn.
Drive both, but keep this in the back of your mind.
IF you buy the 500 and it ends up being too small your screwed, buy the 800 and you will not have any size issue.

The 800 is available in both the large size and the mid size.

I have the 800 full size Ranger. The bed can hold a pallet in it. It has all kinds of power. Three people can sit in the seat with seat belts. I know this is not part of the question. The new 900 has so much more comfort and less heat issues in the cab. The adjustable drivers seat. The height difference makes of the seat makes it easier for the wife and kids to drive. Just sit in one before you make a decision.
