Re: DOT (Street Legal in Michigan)

We are camping in the St. Helen area this weekend. It will be a week or so before I am done, I do not pick up my RZR until next week, probably Monday. I just sold my street legal Rhino and will be riding shotgun either in the wifes Ranger XP or My nephews Rhino. The RZR will make our 5th unit converted to DOT! I love the freedom it gives us! If you want to we can try to hook up sometime for a ride. Just PM me.

I live in Michigan and I'm in hell, just went through all the work of getting my 400 road legal ready and the sos has rained on me hard.

Have the road legal components installed by my dealer
Have the police signed off on the TR-54
Went to the sos and they said they MUST reassign a new vin as an assembled Pick up.

ANY help is appreciated.

Being road legal is the best idea ever, now I can go on the 2-tracks in state land and down to the store for gas without looking over my shoulder

LMAO, we do it anyways but i do live in the stix, we have a country store Marathon station about 3 miles up the county road, im surrounded by farmers and land owners (like myself). WE all cruise the county roads on ours. we simply put a red reflective triangle up on our cages or tailgates and cruise away.. Ive seen two county LEO's and waved at them when i cruised by, as long as were not trying to get out on the highway or interstate they dont hassle us any. and of course as long as your not running 55mph on the 30mph county road. Ive been to the service station where there were more buggys there than cars.. my wife laughed ! Now per the law are we "legal"... umm no. I wouldnt try this if i lived close to town or a high traffic road, but as i mentioned before im out in the country.. think ive seen 4 police cars in close to 2 years on a county road.. there's just no reason for them to be out trolling farm land.. frankly the cops dont know who's the farmers and who's not.. and have you ever seen a man on a tractor with a red triangle traveling field to field via the county roads pulled over ? i havent..

The state has now reassigned my new VIN and State Farm insurance is insuring the vehicle with Michigan No Fault insurance for $780 a year. They have it insured with the new, state assigned VIN number which they manually over rode in the Polaris body style. I have my 60 day temporary plate and am waiting for my state employee to call me and put the new VIN on the vehicle.

Notes;
1. This cost me about $3000 with intstallation and parts to do.

2. The state has not been helpful in any way. The employees at the michigan secretary of state have acted like amateurs and have epitomized why most people have a dislike for their government. They have blocked and obstructed every step of the way. It took 4 trips to their office to get this done and on the first trip they called TR-54 a forgery because the officer used two different color inks to check her boxes.

3. How is your 11 year old child insured when he rides his bicycle down the street? It's time that these machines are handled the same way. An 11 year old child on the street is far more dangerous than an adult on a SUV.

4. The entire process has reminded me why my country has fallen, government regulation of everything is rampant. Telling free men that they need to wear seat belts, have laminated safety glass, or any other device that a motorcycle or bicycle is not required to have is obstructionist.
