Engine missing no power

I have a 2009 ranger crew. The engine will start and run but it starts doggin down when you apply throttle. it will run fine up to about 10 MPH then start dogging down as I apply more throttle. I've ran two tanks of gas thru it from different sources so i know its not water in the gas.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Have you changed the fuel filters I noticed on mine they don't take much to clog, I replaced mine with a glass one from the auto parts store.

Re: Engine missing no power

Im pretty new at this ranger stuff, But I am a master certified mechanic. I am assuming its fuel injected, so the most likely cause is fuel pressure or fuel volume. If you dont have enough pressure, most likely there would be a starting problem. You dont say anything about that, so I would look at volume. I dont know where to get this info, but if you can find a specification on volume, it is an easy test. Usually you disconnect fuel line at fuel rail and energize pump for a predetermined amount of time, and record amount of fuel collected. that will tell you if its a clogged filter or some other kind of restriction. The other possibility is restricted exhaust system. A back pressure test will determine that. Being that it doesnt have a catalytic convertor, I doubt it is restricted. I would definitely check fuel system first. Hope that helps. David

Re: Engine missing no power

Had same problem with my 2004 Ranger 4x4. A simple spark plug change fixed the whole problem.

Had the same problem on my 2007 ranger 500. Turns out there was a brass bushing on the inside of the outside of the primary clutch that had moved inward and was supposed to be flush with the inside out of the outside of the primary clutch. Had a tech who took one look at it and knew exactly what was causing it. Sorry for all the confusing dialogue but i know no better way of explaining it. I should have taken some pice while it was apart. And yes the clutch does have to come apart.

x2 on the spark plug. Don't rule out water in the gas just because you ran a couple of tanks through it. Water stays at the bottom and separated.
