Radio on Ranger
Okay, I finished building a radio and speaker enclosure on my 2008 Ranger. It turned out really nice, but I was looking for some ideas. I have an Ipod nano with a clear plastic case on it. The case has a spring-loaded type belt clip on the back about 1.5" wide. The aux. input on my stereo is on the front of the unit. I would like to mount some type simple bracket next to the stereo so I can clip my Ipod to it while I am playing music from the Ipod. Any ideas?

Re: Radio on Ranger
I would search for a hardcase for the ipod. or maybe a soft case and then use Velcro to hold it near the radio. get the good 3m brand and it should stick fine.

Re: Radio on Ranger
Yeah, the case is hard, with a spring loaded belt clip. I don't want to use velcro because we use the Ipod in other applications as well. The best thing I can compare what I am thinking about to is something similar in shape to the metal piece on the back of some picture frames that has the serrated edge. Obviously, I don't need the serrated edge and would need it a little larger to hold the belt clip on the Ipod. In other words, a piece of metal with a screw on each end, and raised 1/8" inch in the middle.

Re: Radio on Ranger
Since the Ipod has a belt clip why not cut and fasten a piece of a leather belt so you can just clip it on.

Re: Radio on Ranger
Now THATS an idea I had not thought of yet....might have to contemplate that if I can't find something in metal.

Re: Radio on Ranger
Yea Adam, If I was on a
g boat I would be a Master Baiter! ![]() I have the same Ipod and same clear case with spring clip and just pushed the leather so it raised the loop and is easy to clip and unclip the unit. Nothing fancy but it aint going anywhere and works great. Gary

Re: Radio on Ranger
Well, I got to digging around in the garage last night looking for something to fabricate a clip. I found some narrow metal that I was able to bend in such a way to make a bracket to hang the Ipod onto. I installed it last night and will take pictures of the entire project as soon as I can find my camera!

Here are some photos from my radio build.

Re: Radio on Ranger
I also wired the power to a switch on the dash, so I can run it without the ignition key on. I can take photos of the switch if anyone would like to see it, but I just bought a Carlisle switch and put it in one of the empty holes in the dash below the AWD switch.
