High Range won't engauge all of the time

Hi all,

I sure can use some advice and direction. I have a 2004 Ranger and it is hard to get into High range. I tried adjusting the cable every wich way and even took it off at the rewar linkage; but no change. The problem is that when I try to engauge High range it just grinds most of the time (with and without the cable connected). I ease it in and out several times and then it catches. I ruled out the cable and cable adjustment and all of the other ranges work (Low, Nuteral & Rreverse). It is looking like there is a problem in the transmission; however, I figured that I would check with the experts before I tear it apart or take it into the shop.

Thanks for any help you can gine me. Could there be an upgrade or TSB from Polaris for this problem?

I can't answer if Polaris has a fix or TSB for this problem, but I do know that I've had about 4 transmission failures (different vehicles) out here with military usage and have always had to replace them. If you do take it apart and find bad parts such as syncros, shift forks, etc, post it so we can keep it in mind for a cheaper alternative to replacing the unit. The unit is easy to remove and replace. Good luck
