2006 ranger high idle efi
Is it possible for me to lower the idle. its too high and the ranger won't shift unless i turn it off first

Check under the seat, there should be the throttle cable. The proper specs at idle (for my 2007 500 efi) are 1200 +/- 200 RPMs. After listening to it several times there's no mistaking if something is off. In my service manual under the carb section states other possible trouble shooting as: a plugged or restricted idle jet, throttle body screw tampered with(solution is replace throttle body), failed sensor or disconnected wire, IAC(idle air control, located on top of carb, 3 screws holding it and sensor located air filter side) stuck or inoperative, intake air leak. That's a lot of things to look into but that's everything from the service manual. Mine did that a bit ago. i took off the carb and cleaned it and made sure all of the sensors were cleaned. Then started it without the air filter on and had a friend rev the engine and sprayed small amounts of carb cleaner in just for added security. Make sure when you put the carb back on that you seat fully and tighten the clamp on the dimple side of the lip. I neglected to seat it fully and tightened on the lip. It vibrated off and stopped my fun real quick. I figured it out when i turned it over and noticed the ignition of the gas from the spark plug in between the carb. Easy fix though.
