'07 500 EFI - Backfire - Now Won't Start
Puzzled...Came back from drive to store. Parked in driveway for 30 seconds. Ranger backfired when trying to start it. Now it will not start. Turns over strong. Odd throaty-type backfire (once or twice) when cranking. Checked and added fuel to the tank. Same story. Plenty of cranking power. Any ideas where to start?

I would start with a compression test. I would bet that you have a stuck valve. Most likely an exhaust valve.

You should be able to free it up by taking the valve cover off and getting some oil in the cylinder and Exhaust port.Then tap on the valve under the valve cover, I am not sure how easy it will be to get the exhaust off but I have encountered this before and would bet that's the problem. You may find that after sitting and cooling off that it will start again. Good luck with it.

Here's what happened... Backfire blew the intake rubber connecting hose away from the intake pipe. Apparently the clamps were loose. I reconnected the hose and am back running fine. Who wooda thunk! Thanks for taking time to reply.
