500 Ranger No Start Issue

We have a 500 Ranger at our club and the only way to start it is by raising the hood and shorting out the little box with the red wire from the battery with a screw driver.

Might have an issue with the battery not putting out enough volts but think it may be that little box thing the wires are going to. Is the the starter selinoid?

If jumping it directly to the battery starts it then the battery is not the problem. You're on the right track with the starter relay/solenoid. Testing them is pretty easy, I'd take a few minutes and check it before replacing it. The key switch could also be faulty but not nearly as likely.
