2004 500 4x4 flooding carb

Carb keeps flooding out like valve is not sealing. It started this summer so I changed needle, valve and float and ran great for 6 mos. but it started again. I can take carb apart and clean and it will run great until I turn it off. When I start it back up it will run at a speed of no more than 5 mph. Is there an air and lean adjustment on this carb, because I cant find it. Any help would be appreciated before I break down and buy a new carb.

Sounds like you still have some dirt in the carb, or maybe in the tank that is getting by the screen/filter. Try flushing the gas tank, and cleaning the carb again. Find out what the float height should be, and check that. It doesn't take much dirt to give you a problem. Good luck !

Thanks, I will try that. How do you adjust the bowl level if that is the problem?

Its done by bending the little tab that pushes the needle onto the seat. You will have to check with someone that has a manual, as to the dimension, and where it's measured from. Sometimes your local dealer will give you this info.

Thanks Buckhorn. You probably saved me $400.00 (hopefully). Will fill you in when and if I can fix.

Pay close attention to the needle valve (the valve that the float opens and closes). Make sure it's sealing well... that is often the problem. Try cleaning (carefully) before replacing.

If you're suspect getting debris in the float bowl and needle & seat you can toss a clear inline filter in it.

Thanks for the info. Did all you guys mentioned. Fired up fine and ran faster than it ever has. After about a mile after stopping at a stop sign I accelerated and it died. It would start with no problem but would die as I accelerated. Finally choked it and got enough speed to get home backfireing all the way. Could it be that I adjusted the float too much?

Slacker's right, must have more dirt or something in the gas.
