It seems like the headlights would at least come on, so i really hope its not a popped ECM since they're 200 bucks or so. Thanks for all the help. I've never had to chase down electrical problems before.

And you tested the small wires with the ignition switch in the start position? That would be with the key turned all the way clockwise against the spring tension.

If so, it is sounding like the ignition switch - but before you replace it, just check the connector where the wires plug into the end of the ignition switch on the front side of the dashboard. Those contacts can get dirty and mess things up, or the whole connector may have come off it somehow.

I got my wife to step on the brake and turn the key like shes starting it while checking the wires with the voltmeter. Still nothing. I guess theres not much to do except wait for the ignition to get mailed to me which should be here in a day or two. The connections are solid and plugged in tight. Thanks for all the help Russ, you've been a lifesaver and I really appreciate it. I'll post again to let you know how it goes.

One of the wires going to the ign. switch should have 12 volts coming from the battery at all times. Check that also before changing anything. That is where I started my troubleshooting when my switch was bad.

The only ones I checked were the 2 small wires on the solenoid, one of which goes to the ign, theyre both cold. Power going into the solenoid through the top big wire but nothing coming out of the bottom big wire. Or do you mean test for a hot wire on the ign. switch itself going to the battery? I'm curious, was all the electrical not working on your ranger before you replaced your ign.?

Yes test for hot going to ign. switch. It has been about 4 yrs. since the problem but yes I believe all electr. was lost. Also you might want to check the switch to your brake pedal which disables the starter if you don't depress the brake upon starting. Hope this helps.

Yeah I had a problem with the brakewire when I first got the ranger. Thanks for the heads up tho. When I first got the ranger it ran real rough, turns out the fuel line came off inside the gas tank and all it needed was to be put back on. Ran great ever since until this. I think its got 750 hours or so on it.

had the same fuel line problem also about a year ago. Clamp broke off and tough to find a clamp small enough to secure hose and get it back in the hole on top of fuel tank. A buddy thought his fuel pump was out and he had the same problem in Dec. hunting. Quick fix and no $. Thats quite a few hours. You must ride alot. Good luck on the fix.
