Re: Alaska Ranger 6x6 Owner Since 1999

Went riding this weekend with a fella that also has a 1999 6x6, owned since new. He and another guy with a Rhino were the only ones to get stuck. They were the testers, if they can't make it the rest don't even try. This was a trail (snowmobile) that only got worse after each turn. They had to back track thru areas that they got stuck in but after about an hour of winching and cutting trees (small) to build a bridge, they made it out. One of our riders (the 6x6) always carry's a chain saw, windfalls blocking trails etc and we had a few this ride.

The only negative thing Skip complained about was the 500cc engine. He's a big man (350+-) and he says it lacks the power for him to keep up with the crowd at times.

Must have been in the springtime. Was the sun up? What they did not tell you in that show, was that probably, -40 degrees was the high temperature for the day.

Don't believe everything you see on those shows. A lot of hype. I have lived here for over 55 years. Yes it is cold, no it's not dark for 6 months everywhere, only above the Arctic Circle. Southeast Alaska is like a cold Seattle, Anchorage is like midwest, just longer, Fairbanks is cold as hell (-70 at times) in winter and Hot in the summer(100+ at times) and Barrow.....Well it is the top of the world, what can I say..
