2005/06 Ranger XP Part Needed. HELP

On the 2005/06 Ranger XP's there is a sure power box aka ECM under the hood mounted on the left side. (silver box with fins and it has two plugs of wires plugged into it one at each end) My box shorted out and burned the lower plug so I can't use it and Polaris says you have to buy a complete wiring harness to get it. Way to expensive for just a plug that can be pig-tailed in. The plug has 14 holes in it so it's called a 14 pin. If anyone know's where I can find a salvage yard for Rangers or if anyone knows maybe where to get one of the plugs like from a Ranger that's caught fire or damaged beyond repair or just whatever I could really use a plug cut off an old harness or where to get a new one and build my on pig-tail. Thanks in advance. I can be contacted at 501.743.9005

Re: 2005/06 Ranger XP Part Needed. HELP

Many of these connector plugs have an ID name printed on them that might identify the maker. If yours is melted, the other one might provide the info. If you can determine what company made it, you might have some luck with google searching for the company. An auto electric supply house might also be able to help you here.

Most of these plugs are a real PITA because they might be used in a number of different applications but finding a crossover is nearly impossible. Polaris probably has the harness made by a supplier and unless you know who that supplier is you won't be able to get such a trivial but all important part. There could be 50 cars sitting in a junk yard with that exact connector in them but finding it is the old needle in the hay stack.

Car audio places might also be an option because it seems like every radio has such plugs and if you ever get a nice radio taken out of a car, be sure you get the plugs with it or you will be in the junk yard.
Allot of these places have boxes of these connectors if you can find one willing to let you scrounge thru it.

Good luck

Gary

Check- crashedtoys.com - they might have a used one.

I would try to figure out why it happened first.

Re: 2005/06 Ranger XP Part Needed. HELP

Thanks for the replys and I have found a number on the plug and it is made by Delphi and the number on the plug is a product material recycling code. I have made contact with the people who make the wiring harness for Polaris and would'nt you know it there blue print only showes a 12 pin plug where mine is a 14 pin go figure. The lady helping me at the wiring harness company has been real good to help but can't explain why her blueprint for the Ranger XP don't show the 14 pin connector. Dang it...

Re: 2005/06 Ranger XP Part Needed. HELP

How many wires are coming out of the plug? They often use a 14 pin plug but it might have a few un-used positions so only you can tell us how many actual wires are needed in that connector.

Like I said before, do a google search for "Auto electric connectors". I found many companies that list Delphi as a source but you have to do the rest. Count the number of holes in the connector and the number of wires you have coming out. Most of these are fairly standard male to female plugs but it does take a bit of home work to get what you need.

I have stereo receivers from the mid 1970s and can still find the plugs I need, it aint easy but it is not impossible, just takes some time and effort on your part and I won't do your homework!

Re: 2005/06 Ranger XP Part Needed. HELP

Here is a copy/paste of the info KID D found after doing some painstaking research.

This is the kind of stuff that is invaluable when you need to find a particular part like a connector plug to save you from buying the entire harness.

Thanks Kid Dynomite;

The following are part numbers for the Plugs and connectors, seals and cavity plugs for the ECM found on the 05/06 700 Ranger XP's. With these part numbers you can have a pig-tail put together so you can replace the burnt plugs and or wires on these models without buying a whole wiring harness from Polaris. These are Delphi/Packard part numbers. I located a company in Texas called Mouser Eletronics www.mouser.com that sold me these items as I needed not just bulk sales only. They shipped same day and had great service. I hope this helps fellow PRC members who have had ECM and burned plug and or wire issues like I did.

The 16 pin plug - 15326666

The 14 pin Plug - 15326917

Connectors Pins for inside of Plugs - 15304718

Seals for the Plugs - 12191221 or 15366066 Note: you can use either one depending on supplier's stock.

Cavity Plugs for the Plug - 15305170
