Venom Winches

Anyone use a Venom winch? Been looking at winch options for the Ranger and these Venom winches are very well priced. Reading up on them on the website they seem to be set up pretty good with all the right options?

VENOM WINCH

A Ranger package with a 4500lb winch with synthetic line and the Ranger mounting plate is under $300.

Thanks
DB

Never tried them, but also check out Viper winches. You can find them in the sponsor section of the forum. I'm too cheap to get a winch that I may never use, but they sure do look good.

Ordered a Viper. Just couldn't find enough info on the Venom's. I'm a long time Warn winch guy but I just don't see paying the price for one when the Viper winches have the great following they do?

I just put a 3000lb. venom winch on my ranger 400. It is very powerful as i tried it yesterday. I connected it to a tree and had my brakes pressed and it slid my ranger with ease. Im very happy with it so far. I bought it on ebay for $139 free shipping.

I sure dont want to come off as bashing one brand over another but when I was doing a lot of research on this issue I found that Venom was started by a past employee of Viper and used a similar name for confusion. Viper has a strong following and sponsors this board so if I had to choose I think I would lean towards VIPER....

Just my $.02...

The ones I'm seeing on eBay are priced higher than that for a 3000 lb winch... more like $170. What seller did you use? I did see a 2000-pounder for $134.99.

Also, the generic descriptions of the winch packages refer to a thumb switch for handlebars - but as we all know, Rangers don't have handlebars. Did yours come with a thumb switch, and if so, where did you put it?

Thanks!

Russ

That price was just the winch because I couldn't find the winch and mount combo for the 400. I just tie strapped the thumb switch under the hood in a good place because I didn't want the button exposed for my 2 year old to press on. On eBay I just typed venom 3000lb winch and it came up . Hope that helps.

Oh thanks, I was looking at packages that include the mounting plate and replacement grille. Did you have any trouble mounting it without the special plate?

Make sure you at least put a 3,000lb on a Ranger. I had a 3,000lb Warn on my 800 Sportsman and buried it in a mudd hole and stalled it out under single line pull. I doubled the line pull and was able to extract the my Sportsman but with the size and wieght of the Ranger it would have been left in the hole.

With a winch the more power the better!

Russ

I had bought the winch mount off ebay and it came with the replacement grill. It bolted on perfectly. It was fairly simple to install.
