No, it seemed pretty straightforward when I did it.

I have a two way setup for my winch. I purchased 2awg wire from ebay(25ft of red and black), I had the to the battery(actually mounted to solenoid). I purchased two sets of "tuff stuff" winch conncectors from amazon. They look and function just like warn but cheaper. I took the metal inserts out and soldered the cable to the inside.(I filled about 3/4 of the inserts with solder, and then slowly but efficiently placed the cable inside. Let sit for at least 30 seconds before moving.) Also the connectors are neutral sex- not definative male/female so they all fit into each other. I had a winch mount already inside the bumper. So I purchased a plate with a 2" hitch which i bolted together. I then purchased a removable plate from amazon. I then mounted a switch in the cab for the winch. In the future I want to add a quick connect mounted at the front of the cab so that I can be out of the cab if necessary. I have tested both and it works great.

Front and Rear Winch

I've had the same idea about the winch that can go on either the front or rear and actually had this all set up on my quad before I sold it and bought the ranger. There are quick connects that install really easily, but there's another system you can use, too. I have a winch for my truck set up the same way for the front or back and I can connect it to the battery easily using my booster cables. You just have to insulate the connections (which a small chunk of inner tube does quite well. Then it is easy to use the winch wherever. In fact, I can even take the winch from my truck and use it on the Ranger since they both have two inch receivers. Packing an 8000 pound winch on a Ranger should get you out of anything.

Then it was really stuck and would have needed a sky hook to get it out.
