2003 ranger 6x6 left front axle

I'm working on a friends series 11 6x6, the left front axle has pulled out from the cv joint and ruiened the axle, so i have order a new axle for it and when i install the axle it seems to me that it's about an inch to short. They only list one part number for both sides but the differental is offset to the right, there is a 3/4" difference. What is happening is that when i tighten the hub nut it is pulling the axle out of the differental. When i check the axle length to the old axle it's the same but i have found out that the axle i'm replacing was replaced a year ago because of a broken u-joint. Should the axles on both sides be the same lenght? Even when you jack the supension back to normal height the axle is about a 1/4" out and the cv joint is strached out to the max. None of this seems to be right to me. On all of the other atv's i work on your cv joint should be running in the center to allow for supension travel and turns. Has anyone ever ran in to this type of thing?

problem found

I found the problem last night. after looking at the differental i found that the mounting plate was bent at the bolt holes. My guess would be that it has broken an axle before and when it did it twisted the diff and bent the plate. I took the diff out and with a couple of hammers and a long metal rod got it straightened out. then it all went back together. the axle is now fitting correctly.
