DOT Tires on a RZR?

I don't want to seem like a nut case, but I've been wondering if anyone has put regular auto tires on their RZR? In the Spring I do most of my riding through farm fields and county roads that are soft and often muddy. The standard ATV type tires are great in that situation.
But during the summer months, most of my riding is on firm dry, dusty farm fields, access roads and dry county gravel roads, even a fair bit of pavement. Therefore I don't need actual ATV type tires to slog through mud. I was wondering if anyone has put regular DOT type tires on their RZR, and if so, how did they work? (confession: I'm also cheap and hate wearing out good ATV tires just to ride on solid roads)
I already have the 14" Bruiser wheels and Goodyear Rawhide tires. That arrangement has me at about 53" wide. I'd want mud and snow or other traction type tires just for good traction. I'd want to mount the new tires on their own wheels for easy swapping between seasons. If anyone has done this I'd like to hear your experiences. I'd also like specifics, wheel type, size, brand and tire size, brands etc. I'd really like to find a set of "run flats" just to simplify running in the desert when I flee to Arizona for the winter.
Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.
Paul

Re: DOT Tires on a RZR?

I have seen plenty of ATVs with BFG all terrain tires. Small sizes come in 14" wheel size. They would last forever.

Re: DOT Tires on a RZR?

Don't know if it would work but I see lots of slightly used Blizzak by Bridgstone tires here at yard sales and such.
Most are 13 inch but occassionally I see a pair or set of 14s.

I love the Blizzaks for winter driving on my beater cars and suspect they would be a great DOT for the RZR. They are a fairly soft compound so I think wear might be faster but they would provide some great traction when needed.

Another guy here has a set of Firestone Town & Country studded snows on his Rino for winter ice g and swears by them.

Re: DOT Tires on a RZR?

Thanks. Now I know it's been done, and apparently successfully. I'm hoping someone will report with specific models and sizes. The rear tires will be easy to find as I can just select a tire of the correct height, then nice and wide, and probably as flat a tread surface as possible. The front's will require a bit more research so that I can have as much width as possible and still have adequate clearance when the wheels are turned. The shape, design and tread pattern of the front's will make a big difference in clearance. You're sure correct, the softer compound would be a real plus for those occasional slick spots.

I can't give you any further info from here but I would think a local tire dealer ought to be able to hook you up as long as you know the width of the rims and the height of tires that you know work well on your machine.

My Polaris book lists the Bruiser rims at 14 X 7 in front and take a 26X9R 14 tire. The rears are 14 X 8 and take a 26 X 11R 14 tire.

Re: DOT Tires on a RZR?

we run 28 850 14 super swamper tsl bias ply tires on all of our road legal units. There are radials as well but per Interco they are 6 pounds per tire heavier than bias. We run a lot of wet/muddy conditions and the BFG AT's suck in the mud so we went to the TSL. They work great!
