Warn winch on 08 rzr

So my winch is stuck in open spool, any idea how to get this thing back in gear. It's really jammed. thanks

Well you can try pecking on it with a dead blow and turn the knob. Or remove the winch and take it apart.

I've had this happen twice before with Warns! Had to pull the winch right off the machine and open the side cases where I found gunk and rust.

Is the spool spinning free? If it is then you might get away with banging on the lever side and hope it will release and turn back. If the spool is locked even though it is turned to free spool then you probably broke the tab inside and will have to remove the cable hook and take the winch off.

Unless something has changed with Warn, your polaris dealer can't get the parts so you either have to send the winch to Warn for expensive repair or buy the parts direct from warn once you determine what you need to fix it. Thats why Polaris went with another brand and put their label on it.

By the time you are done it will probably be cheaper to just buy a nice Viper right here from our sponsor down at the bottom of our home page.

I installed a Warn on a Sportsman 500 and never used it until the day I was stuck and it didn't work with the same problem. Got it in the free spool mode and it would not go back.

I had to wrap the cable I pulled out around the front rack and get a friend to yank me out. The winch had been there for over a year but I never needed it all that time.

Let us know how you make out and take pics if you can when you get it appart to show the members what went wrong. Thats how we learn and pass great info on.
