Stumped In Arkansas, Someone help me
I have a new 800efi 2010. It belonged to a guy whom i duck hunted with. After duck season he parked it and hasnt messed with it since. He gave the thing to me. I started it and when i did it seemed like the battery was low and the unit was hard to turn over. I started maybe 5 times and each time i did it seemed the battery was getting lower and lower. I got the unit home and began washing the mud and grime out from under neith it. I didnt use any high pressure equipment but simply a garden hose. Once I was half way threw washing it i jumped on it to turn it around and nothing happened when i turned the key on. I figured a dead battery. I charged the battery and put the battery back on. I even carried the battery to have inspected and they said the battery was good. Once again nothing happened. When i say nothing happened the starter didnt roll over. Nor did it even click. I attempted to jump across the solenoid and nothing happened when i did that so i assumed a bad starter. I pulled the starter off and carried to a local shop and they have called and said that the starter was good. Im stumped literally as to what it could be. The lights are all burning brite and when i turn the key they dont seem to dim like you would think that they should. Ive cleaned all connections on starter etc. Someone help. Im a fan of doing my own work since my only local shop has a tendancey to rip someones head off, especially when they bring in a high end item like this ranger. I just want to get it running so i can drink some cold refreshements and ride around. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Stumped In Arkansas, Someone help me
Is there any chance that the safety switch on the brake pedal got disconnected with the water stream maybe? Is the ignition switch putting power to the starter solenoid when you turn the key to crank. if all this is ok it Sound's like a dirty connection some where. I would start at the battery and clean all connectors on the path to the starter. Including the ground.

This happened to me once and I realized I was simply forgetting to put my foot on the brake to start it. Maybe there is a switch gone bad that is not telling the machine you have your foot on the brake.

Re: Stumped In Arkansas, Someone help me
some of the batteries have to be maintained. my 2007 polaris 700 was doing the same thing and all i had to do was get some distilled water (like from your local grocery store) and pour it into the battery cause they have to be maintained it should be in the manual, because i dont know if the 2010 and the 2007 batteries are the same.

Re: Stumped In Arkansas, Someone help me
Use a jumper battery or jumper cables, hook it directly to the starter, if it turns over. then hook the jump cable to the solonoid. If it turns over then, hook the jumper cables to the battery. If nothing happens, then it is probably the switch on the brake pedal. Take a ammeter and check the circuit of wires that are supposed to be connected in a straight line between components, you shoud get a short reading. Then connect to the other side of the switch and you should get an open reading. Have someone push on the brake pedal and you should get an short reading across the brake pedal switch. Using the short-open meathod, you should be able to isolate the problem. Use the short meathod between the same wire to determine that you are on the correct terminal. Sometimes it is time consuming to use this meathod and you will probably need two people. Good luck
