RZR filter breach

I have about 200+ miles on my RZR. I checked the stock filter and blew it out a couple of times and all was well. Even after a trip to dusty Kanab & Moab it looked good. I took a little spin and jumps 2 weeks end ago and when I got back and pulled of the filter dust was inside the inlet, all the way to the butter fly throttle inlet. Should I expect failure soon?

Re: RZR filter breach

DID THE FILTER BLOW OUT!

Was it still in it's proper place when you opened the cover?

Is the filter torn, colapsed or has it even been water soaked?

When you "Blew it out a few times" is it possible you actually did blow out a pleat or two with too much preasure?

The dust got past the filter somehow and it will be good to know the details so we can all watch for this.

As for your question "Can I expect failure", the only to know that is to know just how much dust it ate and time will tell.
I would definitly change the oil immediately and clean out the throttle body of any remaining dust.

Re: RZR filter breach

Thanks Gary, I double checked the filter which was the original 2008 air filter. And the filter media was good and intact with no tears, breaks or water damage, but dirt was inside the inlet. I think what really happened is the filter was plug and dirt got sucked around the inlet and maybe I didn't grease it well enough. I did receive the new FREE element from Polaris which is a lot bigger and it kept the dust out very well this weekend of dusty riding. I geases up the inlet very good this time and you can that it stopped the dirt from getting in to the engine. "I think this is the key."
After I finish with that filter I'll go to the UNI I bought and I'll treat it with No toil and should be ok as long as I grease the inlet to the filter and air box tube real good.
Engine seems fine it ran 55-56 MPH and power was as good as before.

Re: RZR filter breach

My stock filter element has a clamp on the inner end that is near impossible to get to once the element is installed.

I make sure the clamp is tight but still loose enough to slide into place once I grease the rubber. The canister lid then holds it in place so it can't back off the throttle body connection.

Unless yours was very loose then I doubt the dirt got past that end of the filter. I also grease the lid cover O ring and make 100% sure it is on and seated properly.

You may want to re check all your clamps and the tube from the canister to the T body to be sure there is no compromise there.

Go look at the pics I just posted in the RZR discussion forum under RZR air filter.

Re: RZR filter breach

Paper filters are not made to be cleaned. Useing air damages the fibers and the no longer work as they should.
