drive clutch rubbing cover

I changed my belt on my 700 xp yesterday because my dayco 700 wide belt made it hard to shift into gear and I lost power in the low end. I put a standard size belt on and removed the drive clutch to clean it. I notice that the drive clutch rubbed the cover. The clutches are aligned says the dealer. After installing the new belt I still lack power in the low end when leaving from a dead stop. Does the drive clutch need to be installed in same position it came off because I have some vibration at low speeds.

Well mine rubbed the cover and it was aligned. It has some movement and they didn't give enough room when they built the cover. However if you are getting vibrations you might have other issues. If the new belt doesn't fix the vibration problem I would carry it in.

Re: drive clutch rubbing cover

the vibration is only at slow speeds if i open the machine up it gets smooth i just thought since i took off the drive clutch even though it has a splined shaft it may have had to be installed in the same position that it came off. It gives me some piece of mind knowing that it may be normal some what that the cover rubes on other machines thanks for your help

Re: drive clutch rubbing cover

You know, I was thinking, my first Polaris product was a Polaris Scrambler 400. I rode it through some deep water and when I came out on the other side, the belt case had water in it and the belt was slipping. Being a new Polaris owner, I did not know the WORST thing I could do was to continue to try to ride it, thinking the belt would dry out. Well, it did dry out, but in the process, created such excess heat inside the case that it melted the case just enough to begin rubbing on the clutch. Next thing I knew, I had a hole in the case. $80.00 later, I had a new case and was on the way home to install it. The mechanic said that when you get water in the case, put it in neutral and rev the engine slightly to allow it to slowly dry the area without turning the belt.
With all that said, I wonder if you had the same issue and maybe that is why you are having an issue with rubbing?

Re: drive clutch rubbing cover

I too hhave the drive clutch rubbing the cover. Never been near the water. I think it's just the way it came from the factory. Tried tightning and lost power so put er back and let it rub. did put a little grease on the spot and wiped it though. It still rubbs a little but it's not hurting anything.
