RANGER OWNERS NOT HAPPY WITH HEAT ISSUE

I HAVE A NEW 2010 RANGER THAT HAS A SERIOUS HEAT ISSUE IN THE PASSENGER AREA. POLARIS CHOOSES NOT TO RESPOND TO MY REQUEST TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT THEIR EXPENSE (STILL UNDER WARRANTY). I NEED TO COLLECT A NUMBER OF NAMES THAT ARE AS UNHAPPY AS I AM WITH THE HEAT ISSUE. I INTEND TO CONTACTED THE CONSUMER SAFETY BOARD AND IF THEY GET ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THEY WILL LAUNCH AN INVESTAGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL FOR CORRECTION. AS FAR AS I KNOW IT INVOLVES 09..10 AND 11 MODELS. MY RESEARCH TELLS ME IT CAN BE FIX AT A COST AROUND $350.00. MY POSITION IS...IF CAN BE FIXED, WHY IN THE HELL DIDN'T POLARIS DO IT RIGHT AT THE FACTORY? POLARIS ACTUALLY SELLS AN INSULATION KIT THAT WORKS PRETTY GOOD. WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER PICK UP THE COST OF THIS. POLARIS NEEDS TO COWBOY UP ON THIS ISSUE!
YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT jeburkhart@cox.net TO ADD YOUR NAME TO THE COMPLAINT LIST. I HAVE 4 NAMES SO FAR. I WILL TAKE THE LEAD AND KEEP ALL UP TO DATE ON THE PROGRESS.
THANKS.....BIG WALLY

I wish I would have read this sooner. Bought a 2011 Crew two weeks ago and I'm having the same problem. Polaris doesn't care to help even though they corrected the "hot foot' problem on the 2012 models. it looks like I will be fighting the same battle. I plan to take it to the Phoenix media and vent my frustration. Maybe I can at least cost them some sales. I have purchased 3 new machines, 2004 Sportsman 500, 2005 Sportsman 700 and a 2006 ranger. After the way that I have been treated, I will never buy another Polaris product!
Did you ever get any satisfaction from your experience?

My 2011 Yamaha Rhino did the exact same thing with heat issues, the center engine cover in the summer would get very hot, and so would the seats. So its not just a one Manufacturer issue its widespread. You have to remember you are basically sitting next to an engine, unlike your car or truck where the engine is up front and there's a firewall and insulation there to keep out the engine heat, UTV's and ATV's don't have that. Even my Yamaha Grizzly 450 would get extremely hot on the legs in the summer even with the newer machine with the extra plastic guards it still got hot.

I was having the same heat issues with the heat coming out from under the seat of my 2011 Ranger 800XP, and putting more reflective tape or other reflective material under the seat would only direct the heat back onto the motor, resulting in even more heat.

So, I used a material that would insulate the seat from the heat, but not reflect it back onto the motor. The material I used was a very thin foam insulation board used under steel roofing. This is only about an 1/8 of an inch thick and will conform to all of the contours under the seat. I have had it on there for a couple of months now and it has made a huge difference in the heat both on the bottom of the seat and coming out around the seat edges, especially in the area behind the seat. Even on the few 90+ degree days we have had so far, there has been no problems with heat on the seat and the insulation board appears to be withstanding the excessive heat very well. But it is designed to withstand the heat of a metal roof in the direct sun on 100+ days, so it should hold up for a while at least.

I know this doesn't fix the real problem, but it may be something some of you might want to try to avoid having your seat pins (or your legs) melting off this summer. Just wanted to throw it out there.

Can you remember the name of this material? We just bought a 2012 Ranger 800 XP and the munchkin sitting in the middle is roasting out. We need to do something. She cannot ride with that much heat. Thanks in advance.
