Looking at buying 2019 Northstar

Looking at stepping up from our XP900 Hunter Edition to the Northstar. Main reasons is the enclosed cab, HVAC, and Ride Command. We live in the Arizona desert area so we have obvious hot days (well over 100) to low temps in the teens. Wondering how well this HVAC will do. I realize it's not my trucks HVAC, therefore I won't be comparing. Also how air tight is the cab. We ride in a lot of heavy dust at times. Just want to be able to keep my guns out of the dust as much as possible. The Ride command looks pretty cool, is it worth the $$$$. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do the northstars heat up when running the a/c on a hot day and driving around real slow. I local guy that has one says his gets hot when putting around slow with a/c on real hot days (90-100f).

I have a 2018 Northstar and love the heat. Used it last winter ice g with tracks and it warms up quickly. I had it overheat & shut down with the AC on once this summer. It was a hot day and we were driving slow. But honestly I don't drive it that much in the summer. If driving on dirt roads or trails we will still get some dust inside the cab.

Thumbs up

I have the 2019 Northstar with Ride Command and I really like it after 250 miles (especially after installing the Gilomen ECM & Clutch Kit along with 30" tires from the excellent recommendations on this forum)!! Now I just need some minor suspension mods (front springs are really soft, even with pre-load maxed)....

I have a 19 Northstar Crew and I found out that when it get to be over 100 the AC can't keep up and the cab will start getting warm. Polaris says that it is with in "Design Parameters". If you think it will keep you cool on "hot" days you will be disappointed. I will be sealing up any openings that let warm air in and insulating areas that radiate heat into the cab. There are some youtube videos on this. But on the good side, when riding with friends and it's in the 30's the heater is great.

Thanks for your input. We live not far from Quartzsite. We live in Cibola, so your input was very valuable. Especially the dust, and HVAC performance for our area. We currently have a XP900 Hunter Edition. Which is a good machine, just wanted something more enclosed, and the HVAC was attractive.

One thing to consider. Beginning with the 2019 models, Arizona license fees are done like cars, which is a huge increase.

I had a regular 2018 xp 1000 and traded it for a 19 NorthStar yesterday. Metallic gray. The clutches in these units a very hd and do not burn belts very easy which is a good thing. They need to do something about the quality control of the clutches though. The machining was very very bad on my first clutch and the clutches drug so bad the shifter broke off. I then just went out and bought a brad new clutch and it was a lot better. Still had a little belt drag and the shift cable broke so I traded it off. The new unit shifts very easy.
