2020 Ranger Crew 1000 Premium "Megatron"

Hello friends,

I am very pleased with my 2020 Ranger Crew 1000 Premium. This past weekend my buddy and I each loaded up our 11-year-old boys, a lot of camping gear, and we did a 165-mile loop through some of AZ's premier desert 4x4 trails. My buddy is driving in the videos; I filmed. We began in Mammoth, rode east into the mountains and conquered AZ's infamous Carpet Hill, continued east through some very rough/remote country to the Aravaipa wilderness, through Turkey Creek to Klondyke, then south all the way to Willcox. We crossed the I-10 and had lunch, then took Airport Road back west around the south end of the mountains to Cascabel Rd (also known as Redington Rd) and then followed it back north all the way to Mammoth. Took about 10 hrs. The first 25 miles took 5 hours. The Remaining 140 miles took 5 hours. I was thrilled to conquer Carpet Hill, and it lived up to its infamy, but we did Carpet Hill in the dark so I have no video of it. Overall I can say that I am very impressed and pleased with our 2020 Ranger Crew 1000 Premium (SOHC). It has plenty of torque to chug along at low rpms and run up and over any obstacle. It's also quiet enough that we could visit as we went. The suspension was very happy loaded down like we were, and made for a nice ride combined with the SunF 28x10-14 tires at 11psi. This ride was awesome, and if any of you have questions about the route, I've done it so don't hesitate to ask questions. Here's the first of two videos from the ride.

I will also say that this trip put all of these accessories to use that I've added to the machine. The Ricochet A-Arm guards took some serious hits. The SunF tires were perfect, providing good ride, awesome traction, added clearance, and peace of mind. The Tusk Teton beadlocks also gave me peace of mind, and they took a few hits. The roof is a no-brainer when you're out all day in the sun. The Rough Country 12" light bar made all the difference while we were trail riding in the dark the first night, getting through Carpet Hill and over Saddle Mountain. The WD Electronics turn signal kit was what we needed during the 140 miles of public roads/streets between Bonita to Willcox to Cascabel to Mammoth. The Maverick Advantage side mirrors gave great visibility of rear tires in the serious 4x4 stuff, as well as awesome traffic visibility. Kemimoto center mirror made it easy to see and check on the boys in the back seat. Just love how we have this machine set up.

Was that 165 miles on one tank of fuel? Or did you have to refuel? If that was 165 miles on a tank that is pretty decent fuel economy. I don't hear you revving the engine and still crawling along over those obstacles. My use case is a homestead and doing farming tasks like moving trailers, feed, hay, hauling wood, equipment etc so slow speed control and power is more important than speed for what I want to do and some protection from the elements and ability to haul a couple other people in a pinch out to a job site. I am in the market for a UTV and looking at the 1000 closely. It is between the Defender HD8 and the 1000 at the moment for me. Your videos are helping me get a better picture of what this machine is capable of. Thanks for sharing.

Was that 165 miles on one tank of fuel? Or did you have to refuel? If that was 165 miles on a tank that is pretty decent fuel economy. I don't hear you revving the engine and still crawling along over those obstacles. My use case is a homestead and doing farming tasks like moving trailers, feed, hay, hauling wood, equipment etc so slow speed control and power is more important than speed for what I want to do and some protection from the elements and ability to haul a couple other people in a pinch out to a job site. You're welcome. That is precisely the reason I'm doing the video series. My Ranger 1000 will cover as many as 140 miles on a tank - from personal experience. During this 165-mile ride, I did stop for fuel at about 96 miles in Willcox, AZ. This machine will easily crawl along at low rpms in low range and conquer most obstacles that way. I LOVE this about the Ranger 1000. At 2-3 mph the belt is engaged and is not slipping, and the machine is at low rpms. It is easy to feel when the belt has engaged fully, and so for most of the first 25 really rough miles of this ride I just bumped along at 2-3 mph and as long as you keep your foot steady, it will hit and then roll right over those obstacles. My buddy is not used to the machine yet, so in these clips you will see that he backs out of the throttle, comes to a stop, and has to get back in again. But when I'm driving, unless it's crazy rough, I just keep rolling about 2-3 mph and it climbs right over at low rpms. It's very good at crawling. Climbing through rough stuff at very low speed is great in this machine. The way you describe your needs, this machine seems perfectly suited, from my experience. It hauls and tows heavy weight very well. I have 44 videos on my youtube channel and I imagine you've seen them by now. Another example, this past Saturday I hooked up a 5x12 single axle trailer to the Ranger and loaded the trailer with two dirt bikes and a four-wheeler - combined weight about 1600 lbs. I also loaded up my whole family, wife and four kids with me, and we cruised about 10 miles over to a friends property to ride on his trails. The owners manual says to tow only in low range. But...I towed the load in high range with no problem 30-40 mph right along with traffic. Hope this helps.
