I am considering buying a 2003 Polaris Ranger 500. The current owner tells me that it is limited in speed to 25 mph. Before I purchase it, I want to know if it can be speeded up. Sounds as if it only has a low speed gear,or whatever. I tried to find specs online, but was unable.

It's possible that the current owner is simply mistaken. The 2003 500 did not come with a speedometer, so he could be "remembering" a spec incorrectly.

The older machines did not go fast. I know a fella with a 99 and his top speed is about 25 mph, we always have to make sure we don't run away from him. Back then speed was not a selling feature and the top speed is directly related to safe operation.

I have a 2003 "Professional Series" 6x6......they are limited in speed to 20 - 25 mph. I think it has something to do with OSHA standards for worksite vehicles, it also has an audible back up alarm when in reverse. I do have both High and Low gears
