2015 Crew with 1100 hours. 3 cyl 1.028 L engine Smoking badly and one cyl with low compression. Smoking beats a mosquito truck! almost no power.
Considering:
1) Repair/Rebuild (Dealer or indy)? eBay has pretty much top and bottom listed separately - not sure how hard it will be.
2) Replace with used (not finding any engines anywhere)
3) Replace with New Kohler engine (ebay starts at $2300 (only one listed as such), $3600, $3400 range)
4) Go a whole different route - like replace with some common gas engine - not really wanna do it
I bought it smoking from a honey bee farm for $5K - they claimed some bad air intake design for failure - never raced or abused or off-roaded.
I need it to carry some parts here and there at a marina or to go drive with family on the beach - no hard duty.
My budget is $1K repair to 3K max for a new engine. Is this doable? Should've just bought a running one for a bit more since it was for fun mostly. I just cannot pass on a deal - shame shame shame.
