My Ranger took way too long to crank over yesterday and when she finally fired up, sounded very funny idling. As I proceeded to drive I got a check engine light and temp indicator popped up on the instrument cluster. My engine error codes were the following:
1. 10 (FMI), 110 (SPN), 1 (Code Count)
2. 16 (FMI), 110 (SPN), 2 (Code Count)
From the little research I've been able to do, according to the suspect parameter number (SPN) of 110, it has to do with the Engine Temperature Sensor.
Just a little background, I live on a ranch in N. TX. Use this unit for work around the ranch, some hunting, some play, but hasn't seen a long trail ride or any crazy terrain and never push it like a drag racer. So basically dirt and gravel roads. It's a 2020 XP 1000 Crew, bought new in 11/2019. Have about 700 mi & 160 hrs on the unit. Have done all the recommended/required maintenance, break-in oil change at 25 hrs, then again at 100 hrs along with changing the gearcase fluids (demand drive & tranny). I have an S3 Power Sports 4" Lift Kit with 32" tires, bumpers & a roof, but that's all the mods that have been done.
When this started yesterday I loaded up the bed with all the stuff I needed to cut and spray some weeds, drove maybe 300 yards or so, turned the Ranger off, finished my work, started it back up and that's when it was acting funny. Outside temp was only 75 degrees, so not like it was sitting outside in 100+ temps (if that matters). Another weird thing it did was restricting me to ~5 mph, almost like the sensor for the seat belt connection was not registering (which it was connected). I got it back to my shop and started looking around for any problems, checked the codes, etc. I restarted it and didn't have the check engine light on at first, drove it out of the shop and within a min or so it came back on and slowed me down again. Came back in the shop and waiting much longer this time, maybe a half hr, then restarted it and idled for about 1 min and no lights came on and sounded much better idling. Started right up like it always has before.
I've never had any issues with my Ranger. Like I mentioned, I take very good care it. Anybody have any suggestions? Could the ETS rattled loose or maybe needs to be replaced? If the check engine light comes on like that will it limit the vehicle to 5 mph like it did or something else going on now? I have yet to contact my dealer about this. I'm not sure if this is covered under extended warranty or not, I wanted to post something here first before I called them and possibly take it in.
Thank You in advace, all help and comments will be greatly appreciated!
