How many of you Northstar owners have put a backup light on your machine, and where did you put it?
Thanks

I installed a reverse activated backup light with an “L” shaped bracket at the center, lower edge, of the tailgate.

There is very little room between the light and the muffler when the tailgate is lowered.

It doesn’t block the camera view of my hitch when I’m aligning with equipment.

It stays clean from mud thrown from rear tires.

I preferred this style of light, but it needed a relay to resolve the light from being partially lit when not turned on.

I think I might mount my back up light on the outer shield of the exhaust. I’ll also purchase a relay switch so when it goes back into drive, the light instantly goes off.
I read that the wire hanging down behind the exhaust is the power to feed the backup light when the transmission is placed in reverse. Is this correct?

I’ve been planning a similar setup, and from reading here, it is recommended to use a relay if you’re going to supply power from that wire. It’s intended use was for a backup beeper from what I understand.

There’s another user on the forum who sells pre-wired harnesses (with relay) that are plug and play, worth checking out:

An exhaust shield doesn't sound like a very solid mounting point.

I’ll have to check to see if it’s solid enough. I’m still weighing my options.

Not a NorthStar but maybe an idea to consider. I mounted my backup lights on the 1" square tube just under the tailgate. Drilled and tapped into the tube. Offset just enough so mud does not sling on them that much. And they do not hit muffler when cargo bed is fully raised.

Closeup how they are attached, single socket head cap screw, M8x1.25 I believe. Drilled and tapped into the square tube. Does not hit tire when bed is raised, and far enough away from exhaust pipe. Used bracket that came with the LED cubes.

Isn’t there a wire already at the rear so when you put it in reverse there’s power for those lights?
According to my schematic there is. I put a switch in and ran wires not knowing there is a connector there already. Oh well at least I can turn the lights on anytime I want. I just noticed a week ago there is a capped off connector, schematic calls it "reverse beeper"
I put it on my Thumper Fab rear bumper! View attachment 30610 View attachment 30611
looks nice and bright! can you post a picture of schematic showing where the wire is?

I’ve searched everywhere on the schematic and can’t find anything on it. Going to try to get you a picture of it when I get back home, around 3pm mountain time!
